Offaly County crest Irish slate wall plaque.

County Offaly is situated in the midlands of Ireland,in the province of Leinster.
The name Offaly is derived from the Irish kingdom of Uí Failghe ,belonging to the O`Connor Faly family , which  existed until 1550.

Being situated in the midlands of Ireland Offaly has many bogs, namely the bog of Allen ,Boora bog and Clara bog.

Offaly has many important ecclesiastical sites including Clonmacnoise and Durrow monasitc settlements.

The crest has the O`Connor Faly lion holding a Cross depicted in the book of Durrow.

The flowers at the foot of this crest is a sprig of  Bog-Rosemary (Andromeda polifolia )

The counties motto is “Esto Fidelis” which means” the faithful county”.
