The Reask pillar slab Cross can be found near Ballyferriter on the western edge of County Kerry, Ireland.
This Slab Cross stands inside a ruined monastic settlement and is dated from approximately 400 A.D.
It is a fine example of the earlier pagan standing stones being used by the first Christians to arrive on the Irish shores, this gives a certain continuity to the newer Christian religion that had just arrived. The Reask pillar was thought to originally have been used as a "marrying stone". The couple would link their finger through the small slot on the edge of the stone as a part of the marriage ceremony.
Sometime later the monks who built the oratory, incised a greek styled Cross on the face of the pillar and the letters DNE Latin for D(omi)NE - O Lord.
The Reask pillar Cross is designed and coldcast in studio by Colm Mc Cann and is available in three finishes bronze, brass and pewter.
This plaque is free standing as well as wall hanging and is 140mm X 50mm X 20mm in size.
