The Salmon of Knowledge slate plaque celebrates the story of Finn Mac Cool and Fintan the Salmon of Knowledge. Fintan the Salmon of Knowledge lived in the river Boyne and it was said that whoever ate this salmon would gain endless wisdom. At this time Finn was a student of the ancient sage and Druid named Finegas , who made it his lifes mission to catch and eat Fintan the Salmon of Knowledge. After many years Finegas caught the salmon and ordered Finn to cook it for him, but forbid him to eat any of the salmon. Finn did as he was bid ,but as he turned it on the spit, he burned his thumb and put it into his mouth to relieve the pain. in doing so all the wisdom that Fintan the Salmon posessed passed to Finn.The salmon design is coldcast in brass, then mounted onto a slate plaque 160mm x 125mm in size.
