The St. Mura`s Cross slate plaque is based on a slab Cross from Fahan, Co. Donegal ,Ireland. Saint Mura is regarded as the special patron of the O'Neill clan, being a descendant of Niall of the Nine Hostages, through his son Eoghan, who gave his name to Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal. The slab crosses of Ireland are an important link between Irelands pagan past and the early Christian period of the 6th- 9th Cent A.D. These slab Crosses were usually inscribed on the reverse side of a pagan standing stone, thus giving continuity to the beliefs of the native Irish people. These slab Crosses were gradually replaced by the high Crosses ifrom the 9th-10th Cent. A.D.The St. Mura`s Cross design is cold cast in brass then mounted onto a slate plaque ,125mm x 160mm in size.
